Doula "Doo-lah" a Greek word meaning, "in service of"

As your postpartum doula I can provide a quiet presence in your home with an extra pair of hands to help the new mother with light housekeeping and nutritious breastfeeding-friendly meal and snack preparation to help establish and maintain a strong milk supply. If mother’s choice is to bottle feed, I will support her with feeding and bottle/nipple sterilization techniques. For breastfed babies I can help moms with position and latch to get the basics in place.

Postpartum doulas listen to the mother’s birth story, validate the normal adjustment process and help her with the care of her postpartum body. Having emotional as well as physical needs met is the best way to ease into the bonding and recovery process.

Postpartum doulas assist the new mother in gaining confidence caring for her newborn in areas such as

*Typical newborn appearance and when to call a midwife or Dr.

*Cord care

*Circumcision care

*Bathing, feeding and diapering

*Breastpump assistance for those mothers choosing to return to work

I am able to guide the new mother as she learns to trust her own instincts in caring for her baby and offer ideas for "baby-proofing" and organizing a formerly child free home.

Being a 40 year old mother of 5, I have experience with a wide range of newborn care from typical to special needs. I received my postpartum doula training and certification through Bates Technical School and Good Samaritan Hospital in 1999.

My services provide for a 3 hour visit with a charge of $50.00 per visit. I can come for as few or as many visits as the family sees the need.

Ideally, I will do a telephone consultation before the birth and then home visit to meet the family and aquaint myself with laundry area, where cleaning supplies and linens are kept and to find out about the family dietary likes and dislikes. If you have pets that need tending to, I like to meet them and get acquainted with their feeding schedules and such.

Decorative gift certificates are available in 3, 6 or 9 hour amounts. They make great baby shower gifts! I also accept Paypal

It’s never too late to use a doula. Sometimes the best help can come after the grandmas go home and daddy goes back to work!
